Alex was born in London but was brought up in India and studied bansuree under his guru, Shri Prakash Saxena. He discovered Jazz in his teens and moved to Paris in 1994, where he studied flute at the CIM school of Jazz. He hold a BMus from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, and an MA in Music from the University of York, UK.
A year after setting up the Paris branch of his life, Alex formed the band Indofluence, a melodious blend of Jazz and Hindustani classical music (that links leads to the only live track on this CD - ed). Since then, Indofluence has performed in most of Paris' trendy clubs including La Flechette d-Or, Le Divan du Monde, Le Cithea, and Le Satelli Cafe. The band has also played twice at the Dorsten open-air music festival in Germany, and at a prestigious concert series organised by Times-Fm and sponsored by Airtel, in Delhi August 1996. To Quote The Times of India ~ 'Indofluence captured the hearts of the audience and proved that the name they have garnered for themselves was indeed deserved; a reputation built up after performance at prestigious venues...'
Alex has been independently composing music for television since 1997, operating from his independent studio in New Delhi, where he spends about half the year. Projects have included:
He's also composed and rendered the full musical scores for the documentaries 'Kim: The Untold Story' for TVI, and 'Chandigarh: The Search for Modernity' for Doordarshan.
Alex is currently also working on an independent project with Sandy Bose (see "The Trance 'n' Techno Man" on the contents page). The project, named Trance Tara, is a blend of accessible trance music and Hindustani classical music. It is characterised by the extensive use of the flute intertwined with female vocals.
